In Folken you can retrieve a pickaxe by talking to the miner npc. By holding the pickaxe you can mine the ores around in Folken and Dreamen.
Ores
The Folken ores are okay, but to get the best out of your mining experience, you must mine the ores in the Dreamen zone. Be aware that ores doesn't always give items; they sometime only gives xp.
